The Practical Farrier Program
A foundational understanding of the essential skills in horse shoeing and trimming, designed for horse owners and equestrians who want hands-on knowledge of maintaining their own horses' hooves — from properly trimming a hoof to addressing immediate needs like a sprung or lost shoe.
Bring your horse to the school
Our students need real horses to work on. If you are near Silverton, you can bring a horse to campus for supervised trimming and shoeing during class sessions.
- Horses must be sound, halter-broke, and comfortable being handled by unfamiliar people.
- Every trim and shoeing is performed under direct instructor supervision.
- Availability depends on the class calendar — call the office to be added to the list.
